Advanced & Defensive Driving Courses Coventry
Coventry is a good location for us to deliver advanced and other bespoke driver training as it has a range of road networks ideal for training. Motorway training can be completed on the M6, M42 or M40.
For training on rural roads, we often head out towards Leicester or over to Northampton on a range of A and B roads, including the A46, B4453, and A4303, among many others.
Part of our training looks at not only motorway and rural driving but also urban driving.
This can easily be done in the centre of Coventry – or depending on the time of the day, we may move out towards slightly out-of-town areas like Finham, Allesley, Binley or similar. More about our routes and road types can be read below.

Our courses are particularly popular with drivers of all ages and backgrounds. Our courses are designed to be highly informative and interesting, yet delivered in a relaxed, non-judgemental way. Due to our training’s bespoke nature, we have a driving course ideal for everyone. While many of our courses for business and private customers overlap, all courses are available to either.
For all our bespoke driving courses in Coventry, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:
Motorway training – the two main motorways around Coventry are the M6 and the M69, but other fast routes include the A46, Warwick bypass and the A45, running east to west and joins the A46 at the large urban roundabout at the Stivichall Interchange. For unconfident motorway drivers living in and around Coventry, we can use these routes to bring better observations and forward planning systems to help with fast motorway challenges. When entering and exiting motorway junctions, you can learn how to be at the right speed and how to maintain speed for overtaking and changing lanes. Although statistics show that motorway driving is the safest way to travel, it is the speed that worries most drivers, but with a few advanced driver techniques, you can start to gain your freedom to travel across the UK using the motorway systems confidently.
Rural Roads – Much of the surrounding areas of Coventry are rural and can contain some very narrow lanes, and although they may be very pretty, linking villages and farms, rural roads can be treacherous in certain conditions, such as flooding and ice. Accidents in rural areas tend to be quite severe, and unfortunately, young drivers come to the most harm. This is because of less street lighting and signs, plus the temptation to speed due to fewer speed cameras. The B4027 towards Coombe Park is littered with accident sites and is very similar to Back Lane past Flint Green and Four Oaks. Rural driver training is essential if you have recently moved into a rural area or have to drive in a rural area for work purposes. With a little extra driver training, you can learn how to read the road more confidently, know when to hold back on winding roads and lanes, and understand how to reverse safely to allow other road users to pass without ending up in a ditch or deep pothole.
Urban Training – The centre of Coventry is surrounded by the A4053 ring road, which has many junctions and roundabouts to navigate. Most accidents that happen in urban environments may be less severe due to less speed, but they tend to occur around junctions when drivers are more impatient, especially during rush hours. Knowing how to drive safely in busy urban areas is a must, especially if you work in the city or are looking to take a delivery role. With a few advanced driver techniques, you can start to use busy urban routes with increased awareness to show other drivers of your intentions, along with good mirror work to increase your all-around observations. You can also learn how to anticipate the actions of pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users. Driving in busy urban areas requires a calm and composed driving style, and although busy routes can be frustrating, they can be managed much better by understanding and applying a few simple things.
Remember – Each driving course is totally bespoke to your own specific needs and requirements. This applies to both our business and private client courses.
During a session, we typically look at:
* Forward planning and observation
* Speed Awareness
* Developing a positive attitude towards safer driving
* How to become a safer driver on all roads
* Car or van control (gears, steering, foot controls, signals)
* Rules of the road
* Dealing with road rage
* Reversing and manoeuvres
* Dealing with adverse weather
* Town and urban defensive driving
* Driving in heavy traffic and allowing adequate space
* Skid control theory and learning what causes skids
* Eco-safe driving (effective use of speed, gears, planning)
* Anticipation – Learning to see and not just look
* Understanding other road users and their intentions
How we arrange a course (business):
* We provide you with a quote (if training a number of drivers)
* After agreeing to undertake training, we ask you to confirm the numbers and desired dates
* We check availability with our tutors and then confirm with you
* Courses are confirmed
* Our tutors arrive on-site at the agreed dates and provide training in your own cars/van
* We provide you with a course report for each driver a few days after training
It is simple as that – we take a lot of the leg work, saving you time. Please contact us for a quote or to ask any further questions, and a member of our team will be delighted to help you. For private clients (more info), our tutor will call you before the training to introduce themselves and have a chat with you to make sure the course we offer is fully bespoke to your own specific needs. After the training, you will receive a full driving report, which will outline the driving standard both before and after the training.
We measure a driver in 20+ key areas and score them either excellent, very good, good, adequate or poor. We do this at the start and the end, so you can see the improvement and in what areas. There will also be notes from the tutor too.
