For all our bespoke driving courses in St Albans, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:
Motorway training – The M1 and the A1 motorways serve St Albans to the east and west, with the M25 to the south. These are linked via the A414 and the North Orbital Road. St Albans is a very busy city situated north of London. Some drivers living or working in the area avoid motorways as they find them stressful and fear the higher speeds and extra lanes to navigate. By taking advanced driver training, motorway driving can become much less stressful, allowing you to travel across the UK quickly and directly. There are specific driving systems that help with motorway driving, and they are easy to understand, such as better forward observations and scanning the road ahead in a way that alerts you to any issues much sooner. We also help drivers cope with the added speed, especially the joining of the motorway and the worry of not being able to merge into a lane or the fearing missing a junction, plus much more.
Rural Roads – Within a few miles from the centre of St Albans, you can find some lovely rural areas such as Heartwood Forrest and Batford Springs Nature Reserve. Although very picturesque, the many miles of rural roads surrounding St Albans can be hazardous, especially to drivers unfamiliar with the area and those driving too fast. Accidents in rural areas can be severe, so the regulations for rural driving must be respected and understood. The possibility of oncoming vehicles around tight bends is high, as well as cyclists and horse riders found more frequently in countryside settings. Many rural roads, especially toward London, are much busier than most, and the rate of accidents is very high in compared to other areas. Many of these could have been avoided with better observations being able to hold back for oncoming traffic, and, of course, less speed.
Urban Training – St Albans is a bustling city with much commuter traffic, especially during rush hours, and getting across the urban network of roads can be very frustrating, especially if diversions or accidents are holding up the traffic. Some of the worse affected areas are the A1081 Chequer St and the A5183 to St Stephen’s Hill, and most of the accidents have been around roundabouts and traffic light junctions. Many urban accidents can be avoided with more emphasis on staying calm and patient, ensuring you are completely aware of your surroundings, and indicating well to alert other drivers of your intentions.
Locations and Routes:
In St Albans, we have a range of roads where we can provide training. For motorway training, we tend to use the M1 or sometimes the M25, depending, of course, on traffic.
For urban training, which focuses more on lower speed awareness and how to anticipate pedestrians, vulnerable road users and other hazards, we often go into the centre of St Albans or sometimes head out to places like Marshalswick, Fleetville or similar.
For training on rural roads, where we tend to introduce the most advanced techniques, we use a range of A and B roads heading towards Stevenage or towards Aylesbury in the other direction. The exact route depends on your location and what you want to get from the training. The course is based on your needs; we don’t offer an “off the peg” course, but one which is built around you or your driver’s needs.
