For all our bespoke driving courses in North Yorkshire, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:
Motorway training – The A1 motorway runs through the middle of North Yorkshire from Leeds to Sunderland, and we have used this very fast route to help drivers combat many fears when using motorways. There are other faster routes, such as the A19 from York to Thirsk and the A59 and the A64 towards the coast at Scarborough, that we can combine with motorway training. You can refine your entering and exiting of the motorways and be more confident with overtaking and keeping within speed limits. The vast amount of extra traffic and the speeds are the main worries of motorway driving, but by using better forward planning and scanning the road, you can navigate these faster routes confidently in no time.
Rural Roads – North Yorkshire contains the Yorkshire Dales, and the North Yorkshire Moors, and many miles of minor roads cross them. Although rural roads are very charming throughout the summer, they can be treacherous in the winter. With the lack of streetlighting and hardly any speed signs, navigating these lanes confidently and cautiously is essential. Unfortunately, it is primarily the younger drivers that come to harm on rural roads, far more than busy motorways. Many rural roads will be single-track, and if you are not used to reversing in tight areas, oncoming vehicles will be a problem. It often takes quite a lot of confidence to stay cautious on rural roads, especially if you are leading a small traffic queue and feeling you need to increase your speed when you are unsure, so knowing how to be confident with your decisions is a skill that can be easily understood with a little extra training. Understanding rural road driving will also help you deal with adverse weather; often, these roads can flood or be cut off by falling trees, so knowing what to do and how to navigate yourself out of danger is vital for your safety.
Urban Training – There are very few large urban areas in North Yorkshire due to the more coastal and rural locations. When there is a need to drive to busier cities such as Leeds or York, and you are unfamiliar with driving in busier towns, it can be very stressful. Many jobs involve commuting through busy inner-city routes, especially with the rise of home delivery drivers and knowing your way around a town is vital. Not only just understanding your particular journey with forward planning your route but being able to anticipate the actions of other road users, including cyclists, pedestrians and busses pulling out in front of you are all important. For drivers based in North Yorkshire, we will often use York and Leeds for urban training, where each has its own issues. York is mainly pedestrianised and has confusing one-way routes, especially in the Riverside area. Leeds is a sprawling urban city with multi-lane traffic, large roundabouts, and junctions. We use the main A road ring roads surrounding the centre to teach urban training, if Leeds is not too far from you, helping drivers become more confident with all aspects of busy town driving.
